Classic Chianti

“Following the Via Chiantigiana is the best way to relish the spectacle of the Chianti region…”

You can head for Radda in Chianti and stroll in a peaceful town of stone-built houses, alleyways, and views fit for a postcard, and visit the Castello di Volpaia (Volpaia Castle). From Radda head on to Castellina in Chianti, an Etruscan and Roman town. Back again on the Chiantigiana in the direction of Florence, you will arrive in Greve in Chianti, which is a definite stop.

There is, however, another classic itinerary through Chianti, along the winding Via Cassia. We suggest starting out from San Casciano Val di Pesa, stop in Montespertoli to see the Romanesque Pieve di San Pietro (parish church) and then continue on to Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, ending up within the ancient walls of Barberino Val d’Elsa.

To discover:

  • Museo di Arte Sacra di S. Francesco, Greve in Chianti (FI) ph. 0558544685
  • Museo di Cultura Contadina Emilio Ferrari (Farmers cultural museum) San Donato in Poggio (FI) ph. 055 8072338.
  • Piccolo Museo del Chianti (chianti wine Museum) Loc. Montevertine, Radda in Chianti, ph. 0577 738009.
  • Museo di Arte Sacra, San Casciano Val di Pesa.
