Through the Florentine Hill

“The area of Florentine Chianti hills is a vast and very diverse area…”

In deciding our route let us exclude the city of Florence and start out from Fiesole, where you can visit the amphiotheatre and the archaeological park. Moving on towards Molino del Piano, follow along the left bank of the Arno river as far as Rignano sull’Arno, then go on up to Reggello, where you will see little chapels and churches scattered along the route.

At Cascia, it is worth a visit to the Pieve (country parish churgh) with its splendid triptych attributed to Masaccio. On the other side of the river Arno, in the direction of Siena, the road abandons the steep landscape and levels off amongst the hills of Chianti.

Passing by San Pancrazio, Baccaiano and Ginestra, it is worth visiting Montelupo, known as the land of pottery. Before returnig to Florence, it is worth visiting Impruneta, with its sunlit hills clad in ancient olive groves and kilns that produce famous earthenware from the grey and clayish soil that characterizers this area.
