Greve in Chianti

This is a very important agricultural and vinicultural centre in the Chiantishire. It was funded in quite recent times (in 1551 it had only 92 inhabitants) but its Castello di Montagliari (destroyed in 1302 by the Florentines) and its Castello di Montefioralle (destroyed in 1325 by Castruccio Castracani) are certainly older. The village takes its name probably from the near river, originating at the Monte S. Michele.
